Psychotherapy in It’s simplest terms is a conversation between two people, the aim of the conversation is to work through mental health issues like trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression or insomnia. The therapist uses the conversation to help guide the client to understand what they are experiencing and then work together to find solutions to their problems that the client may have been struggling with for years.
Counselling is very similar to psychotherapy and the two often overlap. I have trained in counselling and psychotherapy to give myself the best chance to help people. Counselling involves talking through issues to deal with whatever clients are experiencing right now and it’s not as deep as psychotherapy. Counselling is usually short term.
Therapy can be short or long term, it depends on the client and their needs. Some clients feel better about their problems after a couple of sessions and decide they want to end the therapeutic relationship, others may feel they want to continue with therapy long term but less frequently. One client may be finished with the therapeutic relationship after 3 sessions whereas another client may still be feeling the benefits after 3 years, it’s not 1 size fits all.
Depending on the client the session will usually last between half an hour and an hour.
I don’t have any prejudices and am happy to work with anyone who is polite and realistic, psychotherapy is not a magic wand so the therapeutic relationship depends on us working together with honesty, I can guide you and provide the framework but results depend on you implementing the tools and techniques that I can provid for you.
I qualified formally this year (2025) meaning that I achieved my level 4 in cognitive behavioural therapy in July after studying and training for 4 years, however I have level 3 qualifications in other disciplines from 2024, like my level 3 personal trainer diploma And food as a healing medicine and healthy diet level 3 diploma. I have been fortunate enough to be able to be a full time student that has meant that I have been able to focus solely on learning.
Regulation is voluntary in the UK and I am proud to be a full member of the ACCPH, I follow their code of conduct and provide a therapeutic contract that ensures my commitment to you.
At the moment I am providing my services voluntarily while I am finishing up my coaching and mentoring degree, I have limited availability and can only work virtually at the moment but next year I will start charging for my time and offering face to face sessions.
